QUESTION BY ANNIE

I've been pooping a lot more recently, is that normal?

Soso AI

Okay so yeah, totally normal. Lots of girls find they poop more (or even less!) right before or during their period. It's all because of these things called prostaglandins.

Prostaglandins are like, hormone-like chemicals your body makes, and they help your uterus cramp up and shed its lining. But these cool little chemicals can also affect your digestive system and make your bowels contract more, so you might feel like you have to go to the bathroom more often, or even get a little bit of period diarrhea. It's just your body doing its thing and figuring out how to handle all these new hormonal changes. It's usually nothing to worry about and it calms down once your period is over.

To help yourself feel better, try to drink plenty of water and maybe eat some foods that are gentle on your tummy, like bananas or rice. If it gets really uncomfortable or lasts a long time, it's always a good idea to chat with a trusted grown-up.
