What is it like to have your first period at school

Okay so this is a super common worry, literally every single person I know who got their period at school thought it was going to be some huge disaster. But it almost never is, because periods are literally the most normal thing in the world.

What it feels like

Usually, your period doesn't just start with a gush of blood out of nowhere. It's normally more like a tiny bit of spotting first, like a light brown or pink stain. It might feel a little wet down there, like maybe you peed a tiny bit or something. And you might have a cramp or two, but it probably won't be intense, just like a little ache.

Some people just go to the bathroom and see some blood when they wipe. No warning, nothing. Which is why having a period kit is SO important! You just never know.

What to do about it

First, don't panic! Seriously, it's fine. If you have a period kit, great! Just go to the bathroom during class or between classes and put on a pad or period undies. If you don't have a kit, you can ask a friend, a teacher, or the school nurse for a pad. Most schools have them in the nurse's office or even in the girls' bathrooms. And honestly, a lot of girls carry spare pads, so don't be shy about asking.

If you get some blood on your undies or pants, you can tie a sweater around your waist. No one will even notice, promise! And then just like, take a deep breath. You totally got this.
