Why does it smell

Okay so if you're talking about period smell, the blood can sometimes have a metallic scent, kind of like a penny, because of the iron in it. That's totally normal and not a big deal.

Sometimes there's also a kind of musky smell, which just happens when blood and tissue mix with the bacteria that are naturally in your vagina. Your body is basically just doing its thing, and as long as you're changing your pads or tampons regularly, it probably won't be noticeable to anyone else.

If you notice a really strong, fishy, or just super different smell, especially if it comes with itching, burning, or weird discharge, then it's a good idea to tell a grown-up. It could be something super common like a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis, and they can help you figure out what to do. Mostly though, a little bit of smell is just part of having a period and it's nothing to worry about.
