Does discharge come from where your period comes out?

Yep, totally! Discharge comes out of the same opening as your period, which is your vagina. So so many girls get discharge before their first period and because it's new it can be a little surprising, but it's super normal.

Discharge is your vaginal area's way of cleaning itself, like how your nose gets boogers. It's usually clear, white, or light yellow, and can be thin and watery or a bit gooey. It changes throughout your cycle and helps keep everything healthy down there. When you're getting closer to your period, you might notice more discharge or it might be thicker, and that's totally normal too.

If your discharge ever looks really green or grey, smells super strong or fishy, or causes you any itching or burning, that's when you should tell a grown-up, like your mom or a trusted adult. They can help you figure out if it's something a doctor should check out.
