Why do I have hair on my swim suit area

You have hair on your "swimsuit area" because that's part of puberty, and literally everyone gets it eventually. This type of hair is called pubic hair, and it's one of the first big signs that your body is growing up and getting ready for your first period.

What even is pubic hair?

Okay so, your body starts making more of certain hormones during puberty, and these hormones tell your hair follicles to grow thicker, darker hair in new places, like under your arms and in your pubic area. It usually starts out soft and light, and then gets coarser and darker over time. Super normal!

When does it show up?

Most people start getting pubic hair around age 8-13, but truthfully, it can be earlier or later. You might notice just a few strands at first, and then it gets fuller as you get older. It's one of the things that happens before your period, along with your breasts starting to develop and maybe some vaginal discharge. Knowing these signs can help you kind of guess when your period might be on its way.
