Usually, the first signs of puberty, like breast buds growing and pubic hair, show up a few years before your period starts. Then, a lot of people notice white or yellowish discharge in their underwear for several months, or even up to a year, before their first period. That discharge is a sign your body is getting ready, and it's totally normal.

Another big sign is a growth spurt! You might find yourself growing super fast in height, and your clothes might suddenly be too short. Your period usually comes when your growth spurt starts to slow down.
