Hi, every month since May I’ve been having heavy discharge and then the week after around this week right now I get cramps and the discharge calms down. The first period quiz said in the next few months. It’s been about 2 months? But my mom got hers in 8th grade and I’m going into 6th :( maybe I’m not going along her timeline? I’ve had dicharge for over a year and I have all of the signs I think it’s super super close even with my mom's timeline

Okay so this sounds super normal and it's totally okay if your period doesn't follow your mom's timeline exactly. Everyone's body is different, and while family history can give us clues, it’s not a strict rule. Puberty literally has its own schedule for everyone. Your body gives you hints along the way, and it sounds like you're paying really good attention.

Having discharge for over a year is a super common sign that your body is getting ready. It means your hormones are doing their thing. And that heavy discharge followed by cramps sounds like your body is going through the motions of a cycle, even before the actual bleeding starts. Like a dress rehearsal for your period!

You're right, it sounds like your period could be close, even if it feels like it's taking a while compared to what the quiz said or when your mom got hers. Your body will literally do it when it's ready. Just keep being aware of how you feel, and you'll be ready when it happens. Btw, if you want to check out some of the common signs for your first period, there's a quiz on this site: how close is my first period?
